Less than 30 years after Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1878, Warwick Valley Telephone Company first opened its doors. The year was 1902. Telephones were the stick and earpiece models often seen in period movies. Callers would pick up the phone, speak directly to an operator and ask for YUkon 5, wait for the connection and then loudly speak only the most important news. Today, Warwick Valley Telephone Company goes by WVT Communications. Customers make quick calls on the go with cellular phones. They speak for hours at a time with friends, loved ones and business partners. They send text messages. They communicate with an entire world of people with just the push of a few buttons.
The USA Datanet story begins on the other end of the timeline… in 1998. The Internet was rapidly expanding across the world. E-mail and the web were just starting to become widely accessible. In Syracuse, New York, one company was exploring the possibilities of this exciting technology – USA Datanet. In just over 10 short years, their pioneering work in Internet-enabled voice and data communications made them the ideal partner for WVT Communications… and a 21st century service provider made its debut in 2011.
